| Romanian Porcelain Lace is a
fine art that dates back to the 19th Century. |
| The basket-look style is
produced in Cluj-Nopoca, Romania, in the historic Iris Factory,
the pre-eminent maker of fine porcelain. The talented
artisans there are unparalleled in their ability to create fine
pieces of art from tiny strips of porcelain. |
| Their work is imported to the USA by
an Alabama company called RomAmerica. |
| |
| To make Porcelain
Lace, the artist must painstakingly apply clay strands
one at a time on to a form that retains the shape as
the item is created. |
|
Every piece has hundreds, sometimes thousands,
of crossovers to form the intricate lace.
|
|
Skilled hands join the porcelain threads to
prevent any distortion in the basket weaving,
just as lace is made. |
| After firing, each
basket is painted by hand with lovely floral designs. The detail of the
porcelain work is extraordinary! The
artist must have fantastic patience to create &
accomplish each piece. |
