Sapelo Island is the first of the Restoration Series, honoring lighthouses that have been saved from destruction.
The 1820 lighthouse underwent an 8-month renovation, being completed in 1998.
A re-lighting ceremony was held on 9-6-98.

Perched on a perilous shoal off Centre Island Entrance to Cold Spring Harbor, this lighthouse served mariners from 1890 to 1965.
In 1965 it was moved ashore to a community in Long Island & became privately owned.
